New York Harbor Observation and Prediction System
About the Project
Characterization of the physical environment (in this case, water levels, currents, vertical current stresses and mixing, and surface wind waves) impacting the Hudson River shoreline. This dataset was created for the Hudson River Sustainable Shorelines Project which has five objectives:
1) characterize present and future estuary and shoreline conditions;
2) determine ecological, engineering, and economic trade-offs of shoreline management options;
3) characterize shoreline decision-making arenas and opportunities;
4) demonstrate innovative shorelines and best management practices;
5) create shoreline decision tools and communicate results.
The Project is led by the NYSDEC Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve, in cooperation with the Greenway Conservancy for the Hudson River Valley. Partners in the Project include Cary Institute for Ecosystem Studies, NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program and Stevens Institute of Technology. The Project is supported by the National Estuarine Research Reserve System Science Collaborative, a partnership of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of New Hampshire.
